Product Overview.
Formula One(tm) is an API-driven toolset that provides developers a lightweight, cross-platform component for building spreadsheet-driven reporting, analysis, calculations, and data manipulation into applications deployed on the Web, JSP, servlets, and applets.

Formula One is ideal for connecting to databases, building business rules and logic in the middle of multi-tier applications, or for putting Excel files and spreadsheet functionality on the Web.

Written on the Java 2 platform with AWT and Swing support, Formula One provides native JDBC database connectivity methods, a full-featured spreadsheet engine for manipulating data, a robust spreadsheet interface for client-side applications, and many of the same formula, function, calculation, data formatting and charting options as Excel.

It can also read and write Excel 95/97/2000 files, including 2D charts and 98 percent (325 of 329) of Excel's worksheet functions. But as opposed to standalone applications, Formula One was built as a developer's tool with a small, cross-platform deployment footprint and complete property, method, and event model for building custom applications for the Web.

Product Uses.
Formula One provides a wide range of functionality including:

Live Demos.
The Tidestone web site at www.tidestone.com includes live demos of Formula One including free source code. The demos teach developers how to use Formula One to connect to databases and build spreadsheet-powered servlets, JSP, and applets. They also teach developers how to put Excel files on the Internet, even when Excel and Windows are not present in their environments.

For developers who work with Oracle, there is a special Web site at http://oracle.tidestone.com that demonstrates Formula One's usage with Oracle8i, Oracle8i Lite, and Web-to-go.
